Mendelian Genetics

This applet models the effects of two autosomal Mendelian genes. It also includes a number of complications: alleles may be lethal, codominant, or epistatic.

Instructions

  1. Select parents from the pull-down menus.
  2. Click cross to see their offspring; click cross multiple times to perform a number of trials. You can switch the display between numbers, percents, or ratios of phenotypes.
  3. Pick an offspring and click on it; then click Save an Individual. You may now perform crosses with this animal.
  4. When you think you've figured out the genetic model, click "Reveal Genotypes" to see the genotypes of all parents and saved animals as well as the currently listed progeny.
