BNP: Sensitivity and Specificity

Introduction: Beta (or Brain) Natriuretic Peptide is secreted by the atria when they are distended. Thus, it is a marker for heart failure, i.e. increased filling pressures. A related test is NT-proBNP (N-terminal pro-BNP).
